3 Tips for a Healthy Breakfast

  1. Eat protein. Some people say that they’re actually more hungry during the day if they eat breakfast. This is probably the result of eating a breakfast devoid of any protein. Eating protein helps regulate your blood sugar, making you feel full for longer. Eggs or egg whites are a great source of protein in the morning.
  2. Add fiber. A combination of fiber and protein is the perfect way to get the nutrients you need without feeling overly hungry soon after you’ve finished breakfast. Making sure to include fiber in your breakfast every morning will also help you meet your daily fiber needs.
  3. Include complex carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates found in whole-wheat bread or fruit will give your body energy, but are more slowly digested than simple carbohydrates found in sugars or refined grains. Most foods that contain complex carbohydrates also contain fiber, so you can easily meet both needs with one food source.

In addition to making sure you eat right for breakfast, pay attention to what you drink first thing in the morning. Before reaching for a cup of coffee or tea, try starting your day with a glass of water to make sure you’re properly hydrated.
