These plans rely on a calorie restriction diets similar to conventional weight loss programs, but they are more successful because of physician supervision, expert behavioral guidance and advice, and prescription weight loss medications.

Weight Loss Surgery

Weight loss surgery is the most effective method for long-term weight loss. Types of weight loss surgery include:

  • Sleeve gastrectomy
  • Gastric bypass
  • Lap Band surgery

Weight loss surgery is different from other methods of weight loss due to the physical alterations made to the stomach and/or digestive tract. Bariatric surgery procedures encourage weight loss by restricting how much food the stomach can hold at one time. Some procedures also change the amount of nutrients that can be absorbed into the bloodstream, thus further encouraging weight loss.
