The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery wants you to know whether they think the surgical center or hospital you use for your bariatric surgery is safe, effective and efficient. Thus, they developed the Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence rating. This honor can be awarded to qualified bariatric surgery practitioners, hospitals and centers by the Surgical Review Corporation.

The Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence program works to create guidelines for excellence that surgeons, hospitals and surgical centers must comply with before they are awarded the title of Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. The standards set in the program go far above normal regulatory standards and hold the practitioners and centers to a rigorous set of standards and expectations. In order to qualify, a practitioner or clinic must fill out an application and have their practice reviewed by the board. Once they have been approved, they are added to a national listing that can be browsed by state on the Surgical Review Corporation’s website.
